The iconic Helsinki queer club, DTM, has made a triumphant return at a new address. The revamped nightclub now boasts more space and versatility while staying true to its gay character.

DTM, originally known as Don't Tell Mama, is an LGTBQ+ nightclub in Helsinki. Established in 1992, it once reigned as the largest gay club in Northern Europe and may now reclaim that title once more. The club now boasts two expansive dance floors, with the main dance floor reaching to a height of 8 meters, and a welcoming outdoor area when the summer arrives.

You can expect an eclectic program ranging from house beats to pop tunes. The event calendar will feature club nights, live performances, drag shows, balls, and much more. DTM also proudly hosts niche events, and the new premises offer versatility to accommodate a wide range of gatherings all in one exhilarating night.

DTM's defining characteristic is its unmistakably unique atmosphere, celebrated and renowned throughout Finland. Inclusivity is at the heart of DTM, from its diverse programming to its dedicated staff and captivating performers. Above all, DTM embodies the spirit of fun and inclusivity, inviting all to have a great time.

Teurastamo: A fresh setting for DTM's revival

DTM's new location has found its home just slightly outside the city center in the vibrant area known as Teurastamo. Situated in close proximity to the bustling Kallio district, the rapidly evolving Kalasatama area, and the renowned Suvilahti area, which hosts major events such as the Flow Festival and Tuska, Teurastamo presents an exciting backdrop for DTM's return.

Teurastamo, translating to 'Abattoir' in English, may carry a name that harks back to its historical roots as the city's slaughterhouse, but don't let that deter you. Today, it's a hub of urban and culinary culture, where remnants of its past are present only in the Teurastamo logo, symbolising a traditional meat stamp.

This red-brick area has a distinctive atmosphere, fostering a strong sense of community among entrepreneurs, warmheartedly welcoming DTM to the area. For those in search of a satisfying meal before hitting the dance floor, Teurastamo offers delicious pre-clubbing options.

30 Years of Pride, Community, Joy, and Love

Born in 1992, Don't Tell Mama (DTM) originally found its home in Helsinki's Kamppi neighbourhood. Over the course of its vibrant history, it has moved locations three times, first to Punavuori in 2003, then to the city center in 2012, and most recently to Teurastamo in October 2023.

In its early years, DTM held a special place as the sole gay nightclub in Helsinki. Despite the emergence of new venues over the past three decades, it has managed to hold its reputation as Finland's top LGBTQ+ nightlife institution.

While it has always been popular among gay men, DTM has actively embraced the entire LGBTQ+ community. Straight visitors are also welcomed, but within DTM's code of conduct, which preserves the nightclub as a haven for the queer community—a place where the outside world can fade away, and inclusivity reigns supreme.
