It's a clear, sunny day and two men and two women are having a meeting on a rooftop with Uspenski Cathedral in the background.

Work culture in Helsinki can come across as serious, but plenty of humour and collective spirit bubble under the surface. Company outings and keeping track of wellbeing at work are an integral part of working life in Finland.

#1 Water sports

Helsinki has great opportunities for different water sports, from boat trips to stand-up paddleboarding. One example of an office outing might be a canoe trip in the surroundings of Vuosaari.

#2 A fine dinner

A typical way to spend a relaxed evening with colleagues is to enjoy a long dinner in a restaurant. Helsinki has 1,444 fully-licensed restaurants.

#3 All kinds of sports

Testing out different sports is a popular activity for workplaces. Salmisaaren Liikuntakeskus is a sports centre that offers traditional gym equipment as well as activities like climbing and indoor beach volleyball.

#4 Skiing day

Finns are crazy about skiing. It is common to hit the cross-country tracks or ski slopes on a company outing day, in this case however the activity takes place in the office. Visma is a leading Nordic software and IT consultancy.

#5 Christmas party

Many workplaces organise a company Christmas party every year. The nature of the event can range from an informal gathering to a night at the theatre, or an elegant celebration.

#6 Culture

Helsinki has a lively arts scene. Museums offer inspiration for both workplace teams and student groups. Also school children visit museums regularly with their teachers.

#7 Workshops

Finnish companies place high value on wellbeing at the workplace. Companies tend to organise regular outings, from creative workshops to sporting events.

#8 Relaxed exercise

One of the most popular destinations for both companies and individuals is the Allas Sea Pool, a year-round sauna with outdoor pools floating on the sea. The warm water pool has a temperature of +27 celsius, the sea water pool is near zero in winter.

#9 Extreme experiences

One of the most unusual ways of taking a breather from a busy work schedule is to sit down in the cockpit of an Airbus A320. The flight simulator gives the experience of flying a plane.

#10 Testing out special skills

Sometimes working days can turn out surprising, for instance when you need to put your bow-and-arrow skills to use for shooting down icicles. The Tapanila Sports Centre offers many traditional sports as well as archery and even knife-throwing.
