SEA LIFE Helsinki

SEA LIFE Helsinki takes you on a voyage from the tropical oceans to the Arctic Sea. Discover fascinating underwater worlds, home to piranhas, crabs and starfish as well as sharks and rays. Visitors can step inside the ocean tank through a transparent tunnel.

The exhibitions present many species whose environments are threatened by pollution and other environmental damage caused by humans. SEA LIFE Helsinki is part of the pan-European Sea Life aquarium chain. The aim is to enlighten visitors about the need for protecting the sea environment.

SEA LIFE is located at Linnanmäki amusement park premises, and open daily, all year (except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

Natural History Museum

The Finnish Natural History Museum's exhibitions show the diversity of nature. The "Finnish Nature" exhibition offers a fascinating journey through Finland from the southern coast to the northern fells.The "History of Life" exhibition presents the course of the evolution from the Big Bang to dinosaurs and larger mammals of the Ice Age. Through the exhibition "World Nature" the visitor is taken on an exploration excursion that begins from the polar areas and ends in the tropical warmth. The secrets of the bones are introduced in the exhibition "Story of the Bones". The "Change in the Air" exhibition presents the research on climate change conducted at the University of Helsinki. Helsinki Zoo

Helsinki Zoo is home to more than 150 animal species and almost 1000 plant species that show the diversity of nature. Helsinki Zoo is one of the few zoos located on an island. The zoo was established in 1889 which makes it one of the oldest zoos in the world. Helsinki Zoo also participates in the work to protect the habitats in the original homes of the various species. The rhino sign will take you to the animals that belong to the zoos' shared protection programme. On the island you'll also find a souvenir shop and cafés & restaurants.

Haltiala farm

The Haltiala farm is like a piece of the Finnish countryside. The farm gives visitors an opportunity to acquaint themselves with domestic farm animals. In summer and autumn the animals are outside and can be seen from early morning until late in the evening, at other times they are inside. The sheds are then open mainly Mon-Fri 18-20, Sat-Sun 11-18 (please check opening hours in advance though). In addition to traditional grains, the Haltiala farm cultivates peas and flowers on some fields, and city residents are welcome to pick them for free in July-August. Events during Easter and Christmas. Restaurant-cafe Wanha Pehtoori is situated next to the farm.

Fallkulla Domestic Animal Farm

At Fallkulla farm, especially popular amongst families with children, it is possible to get aquainted with traditional farm animals: sheep, goats, cows, chicken, ducks, rabbits and horses. Many of the animals are of a traditional stock that is native to Finland. Fallkulla is a youth centre of City of Helsinki.
