One of the main landmarks in the Punavuori district is the 500-metre-long Iso Roobertinkatu pedestrian street, colloquially known as Roba. Many of the shops in the Design District can be found in the area. Roba offers lots of attractive boutiques, design and brand outlets, restaurants, bars and terraces. The neighbourhood is known for its communal and lively atmosphere.

Restaurants and cafés

Right at the start of Iso Roobertinkatu you will find Yes Yes Yesa bustling trendy restaurant whose specialities include its tandoor oven and delicious vegan dishes. The summer terrace is a perfect little oasis for spotting city life while enjoying a glass of ice-cold rosé wine. Across the street is Fafa's, which serves fresh pitas and salads. Daddy Greens serves hybrid NYC/Neapolitan-style pizza that is full of aroma and has a delicious crispy crust. Chaos Bar & Restaurant is perfect for those looking for something different, as its menu changes frequently. For pho soups, noodle salads and rice dishes, try Nom Vietnamese Kitchen.

Popular café chains can be found on both sides of Roba, but Round also serves vegan donuts. Relove serves an all day breakfast everyday of the week and is the perfect place to sit behind the windows and watch the people walk past on Roba and Freda.

Bars

Roba has many appealing bars and summer terraces. Black Door is a classic British pub with a wide selection of beers and warm atmosphere. The Riff serves quality drinks and has a great rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere. You can play billiards at Groovetown Jack and sing karaoke at Swengi. Quality craft beers and cocktails can be sipped at Tommy Knocker, while Jackie is a nostalgically decorated bar and pizzeria.

Furniture, interior design and art for the home

Formverk is a mecca for modern design that sells its own products, as well as furniture, lighting fixtures and interior design items by international brands. Sinne is a gallery space for Finnish and international contemporary art. Galleria G in turn focuses on graphic arts and artworks on paper.

Second-hand gems and Finnish fashion brands

Flea is modern second-hand shop that sells clothing, accessories and footwear. If you want to save money and the environment, head for Fida Roba, the biggest second-hand store chain in Finland that supports good causes. Reloveis a great place for all the senses – a café and second-hand shop all in one.

Nectarine sells classically stylish clothes and shoes in two shops opposite each other. On the corner of Roba and Freda, you will also find LoviaVimma and Urban A, as well as the wonderfully old-fashioned Papershop, all of which are worth checking out while strolling along the pedestrian street.

Tip!

At G Livelab you can enjoy great live music, including the hottest indie, pop and jazz artists and bands in town.
