Helsinki is such a wonderful city to visit, it has so much to offer! We loved every second of our stay. We always love it when we have a home away from home, and the Helsinki visit truly felt like that.
Dutch Roxanne Weijer & Maartje Hensen visited Helsinki in spring and published 5 posts about their stay on their popular Instagram account onceuponajrny and one blog post on their blog Onceuponajrny.
Here follows a short summary of those posts with 5 tips out of their recommendations in Helsinki:
1) We visited many museums, but Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma was one of our favorites!
2) We enjoyed good food, at e.g. restaurant Savotta. While you can find all the f0od you want in Helsinki, we love trying out the local food, the Finnish cuisine. Finns love their food and we can taste why. During our Helsinki visit, we eat a lot of fish and it’s so incredibly fresh. A dish you can’t miss is a creamy salmon soup with potatoes and vegetables.
3) We went to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortess Island. It’s the ultimate dream island of the Helsinki locals. When we think about a dream island something tropical comes to mind, but for the Finnish, it’s a different story.
4) We absolutely loved all the restaurants and coffee shops we visited. There’s so much good food to try and you can find the best (hipster) coffee spots in Helsinki. For a unique experience head to Cafe Regatta! It’s also a perfect spot to take pictures. Before visiting Helsinki we didn’t know anything about this at all, but Finnish drink the most coffee in the world!
5) Best of all: we relaxed at the sauna. As we visited Helsinki in March, it was still cold with quite a bit of snow. Therefore it was extra lovely to go to the sauna, warm-up, and fully enjoy the moment. Saunas you can’t miss are Allas Sea Pool and Löyly Helsinki.
