The exhibition presents the long tradition of land surveying and mapping in Finland and the interesting development through military mapping projects <p>The exhibition presents the long tradition of land surveying and mapping in Finland and the interesting development through military mapping projects and secret maps towards modern times.</p><p>In addition, Suomenlinna and the Struve Geodetic Arc, two of Finland's seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, meet in the exhibition.&nbsp;</p><p>The exhibition features more than twenty maps from different regions of Finland and different stages of history from the 16th to the 21st century. The oldest map on display is a copy of Olaus Magnus's Carta Marina from 1539. There is also a detailed general map covering the whole of Finland from 1873. Almost every Finnish village of that time can be found precisely named on the large map.
