Choir Ziemeļmeita invites to the Latvian Independence Restoration Day concert Daugava - Väinäjoki in Temppeliaukio Church.</p><p>Four choirs will perform the musical poem ”Daugava” by national poet Rainis and composer Mārtiņš Brauns and parts of Aleksandrs Čaks’ epic ”Touched by Eternity”&nbsp;</p><p>The performance tells about awakening of the Latvian nation and formation of the national State of Latvia in the aftermath of the First World War and the price paid for the independence. Latvians adopted the final song ”Sun, Thunder, Daugava” as the unofficial national anthem during 1990-indepencence movement.&nbsp;</p><p>The performers are Latvian-Finnish choir Ziemeļmeita, Luxembourgish Latvian choir Meluzīna, Copenhagen Latvian choir In Corde Meo and Ādaži Cultural Centre mixed choir Saknes (Latvia).&nbsp;</p><p>The choirs are led by Ārijs Ādamsons, accompanied by Austris Kalniņš, poems recited by Artis Virsis, poems translated into Finnish by Henri Ranki, directed by Januss Johansons.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Temppeliaukio Church</p><p>4.5.2024</p><p>19.00-20.15</p><p>Free entry, program 15 €, programs are available at the entrance one hour before</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The concert is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia via the fund for supporting Latvians living abroad.
