As a Sicilian, I thought I would find great differences between me and Helsinki, but instead it was love at first sight. A dynamic city but at the same time with rhythms that are not too hectic, with little traffic and with sunny and smiling people.
Italian Raffaella Catania visited Helsinki in winter and published several posts about her stay on her popular Instagram account raffaella_catania.
Here follows a short summary with 5 tips of her recommendations in Helsinki:
1. Suomenlinna Sea Fortess Island: An enchanted place, out of time.
2. Fazer Café & Ateneum museum: My favorite place for sweet moments, also a great place to warm up after spending time outside in wintry Helsinki. I also spent the perfect Sunday morning at this museum.
3. Lux Helsinki: Visiting it in winter was fascinating, walking through its streets with the snow falling down was a dream. I was very lucky to experience light festival Lux Helsinki, a truly evocative and unique event. I recommend walking on foot to be able to see the city better or to take trams around the city.
4. Restaurant Nokka: Here, I tried excellent reindeer meat for the first time!
5. Uutela Nature Trail: I walked on the completely snow-covered beach in the pristine nature of Uutela - just 20 minutes from Helsinki city center!
