Are your kids beginning to climb the walls? On this page we have compiled a list of virtual activities that you can enjoy with your kids. Here are some tips for what your little artists, animal lovers and toy fans can do at home together – not to mention exercise tips! This page is updated regularly whenever we receive new information.

Take a guided tour of Amos Rex with Ou

Have you met Ou? Ou lives in Helsinki, in an art museum called Amos Rex. Art museums are special places where you can see artworks and anybody can visit them! Ou’s guided tours are especially suitable for anyone aged 8 or under (together with someone who can read).

Check out the cool old toys, dolls, teddy bears, toy cars and games at the Toy Museum

Even when it is closed, you can visit the exhibition at the Toy Museum using the Suomenlinna360 presentation.

See the animals from afar

If you can’t leave your home to visit the animals at Helsinki Zoo on the island of Korkeasaari, then the zoo simply has to visit you! You can explore the island remotely thanks to the zoo’s live broadcasts. New videos are published almost daily, including interviews with the zookeepers.

Have fun learning online with the Finnish Museum of Natural History

Now is the perfect time to start a nature hobby: learn the names of plants, insects and mushrooms, watch the birds in springtime, build a house for a bat, discover evolution in a nearby forest, and marvel at the diversity of nature – all from the comfort of your home! The Finnish Museum of Natural History website offers tips and links to all its services and online contents.

Combine exercise and children’s stories

The Helsinki-kanava video channel offers families with children targeted contents for enjoying exercise and children’s stories. Sports instructors Jaakko and Juhana guide children’s sports adventure. The channel is also broadcasting new aerobics videos all the time for different audiences. For example, you can already watch videos featuring pilates, outdoor aerobics, stretching and dry training for swimmers.

“Jumppahetki” aerobics moments make it easy to exercise daily and maintain your physical condition during the crisis. The home aerobics are suitable for the whole family. Jumppahetki episodes can be watched for free on Yle Areena.

Comforting poetry

Poetry can also provide comfort in these exceptional times. Helmet’s online poetry pages offer ways to cope with the situation with the help of poems and writing. The service also includes links to children’s poems read aloud and online stage poetry.

Virtual meeting place for youth

In addition, the Annantalo cultural centre will be transformed into a virtual meeting place for youth. Virtual Annantalo will provide families and young people with a variety of things to do during this exceptional time. The Virtual Annantalo service will begin on Monday, 23 March on Annantalo’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels. Downloadable learning material will also be available on the Annantalo website.
