Helsinki improved yet again its position in the overall rankings to 12th, leaving behind it such cities as Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. In Europe, Helsinki takes the 8th spot. Last year, Helsinki hosted a total of 395 international association meetings. The Presidency of the Council of the European Union boosted overall numbers with additional 131 official EU meetings. Work-related travel typically accounts for around a half of all visits to Helsinki, and a total of 4.5 million overnight stays were registered in Helsinki in 2019.
Helsinki is known as a reliable and functional congress city. Helsinki’s advantages include its efficient services and cooperation with local event organisers. Helsinki has focused largely on sustainability and among other things have created Sustainable Meeting Guidelines that are available for all. During the Covid-19 period, Helsinki has enhanced its digital offerings and most recently created the Helsinki Method for Meetings and Events, which helps event organizers to create interactive and engaging virtual and hybrid meetings.
