Make sure you have your sunglasses with you when you venture down to the southern part of the downtown area. You might squint your eyes here, as many of the streets take you right down to the glistening sea. The neighbourhood's beach boulevards, streets lined with villas, and peaceful parks have an air that always feels a bit lighter. Beautiful architecture, sophisticated cafés and restaurants, seagulls in the summertime, and yachts moored in the harbour are all part of the area's discreet charm. A memorial structure dedicated to seafarers and the shipwrecked invites visitors to lean against it to face the harsh wind and feel the power of the sea to the south.
