Christmas markets and fairs that are full of atmosphere

Helsinki Christmas Market, 1-22 December

You can enjoy the Christmas spirit throughout December at the Helsinki Christmas Market (Tuomaan markkinat) in Senate Square. The oldest and largest open-air Christmas market in Helsinki is the perfect place to prepare for the holidays and simply enjoy the atmosphere. There are lots of food stalls selling Christmas treats that you can enjoy on the spot or take away, including Christmas porridge, hot drinks and other seasonal flavours. You can also shop for gifts, from mistletoe branches to woollen socks, and at the centre of it all is an old-fashioned carousel for kids.

Ornamo Design Christmas, 9-10 December

Ornamo’s Design Christmas brings together Finnish design lovers and the designers behind the products. This year’s event takes place in Helsinki over two days, 9–10 December, at the idyllic Little Finlandia, event space and cafe overlooking the Töölönlahti Bay. In addition to the market area for Finnish designers, the event will feature workshops and a second-hand sale. Visitors can enjoy Christmas delicacies and take a break from shopping in the atmospheric Finlandia Cafe&Wine, which is open throughout the event.

From behind the Christmas stalls and tables you will be greeted by numerous sellers, many of whom are themselves designers and craftsmen from Helsinki and other parts of Finland, including both young entrepreneurs and established producers.

Christmas Market at the Old Student House, 15-22 December

The historic Old Student House (Vanha Ylioppilastalo) will be packed on two floors with high-quality Finnish design and handicrafts. Step inside, unbutton your coat, remove your hat, loosen your scarf and dive into the market. The lively atmosphere is perfect for sharing gift ideas without being overheard!

Christmas market at Teurastamo, 16-17 December

Held for two days in December at the former Helsinki abattoir, the Teurastamo Christmas market gathers both entrepreneurs and artisans selling Christmas delicacies and handicrafts that are perfect for gifts and decorations. You can also enjoy the wide variety of delicious Christmas treats on the spot!

When visiting the Christmas market at Teurastamo, remember to also pop by at Vege Xmas taking place at the neighboring Kattilahalli! The event brings together everything you need for a vegan Christmas. At Vege Xmas, you can shop sustainably for Christmas - all products are 100% vegan! You can find salty and sweet food items and also beverages suitable for the Christmas table, as well as handcrafts, cosmetics and gifts.
