Enjoy treats by small producers on a picnic
Fill up your thermos with coffee grown by Colombian and Ugandan producers. If your friend is a tea person, he or she will appreciate the tea made from black persimmon and marigold petals from Théhuone. Break off a chunk of Ecuadorian dark chocolate from a Chjoko bar. If your craving for sweets is unabated, PH7’s hazelnut brittle is guaranteed to help.
Buy jewellery that employs women
The jewellery from Aida Impact in the Punavuori district combines beautiful design and high-quality responsible materials, but the way they are made is also special. To handcraft the jewellery she designed, Elina Siira hired six women who have moved to Finland and who would find it difficult to find work elsewhere because they take care of their children and study Finnish at home. Many Aida Impact jewellery pieces feature cultured Japanese and Chinese freshwater pearls and Italian silk ribbon, and the jewellery is made of German and Swedish silver. Prices for pearl earrings start at 50 euros. The RT X Aida pendant is a joint product of the Ruskeat Tytöt “Brown Girls” community and Aida that is made of recycled Kouvola silver. The price of the pendant is 65 euros.

Enjoy a forest experience in the beauty salon
At the Kauneushoitola Hilla beauty salon you can book a treatment for three friends at a time, if you like. Each customer is treated safely in their own treatment room. The treatments themselves are made in Helsinki and are all organic and vegan. The owner of Hilla has been involved in developing a multi-sensory treatment called Unna Nordic Metsäelämys/Forest Experience, which combines the smells of conifers with berries and the sounds of nature. The treatment costs 109 euros.

Soap that is a joy to share
It is always a smart idea to keep a unique product at home that can be given as a gift or thank you, perhaps for watering your flowers. Inkuto’s African black soap (€6.95) is a guaranteed delight. Made of shea butter, coconut oil and coconut ash, this soap will keep in the cupboard and is ample for handwashing. When presenting it as a gift, you can say that the soap comes from a small one-woman factory in the Herttoniemi district, where Edem Agbekey-Taylor creates and manufactures skin care products that combine Ghanaian and Finnish ingredients. The products are sold in Ruohonjuuri, large K-stores and on the Incuto website.
Frame your favourite photo
Don’t leave all your photos inside your camera – make high-quality prints out of the best! What better way to delight a friend than with a picture of a meaningful place or of the two of you together. Luova in Suvilahti is a printing and framing shop valued by professional photographers where the service is friendly and understanding, even if you are not familiar with all the terms used in the printing industry. A wide variety of options are available, but lightweight foamboard is both affordable and ecological.

Crunch some delicious bread together
Patisserie Teemu Aura is known for his spectacular cakes and pastries, but on Fridays he bakes crispy rye bread in his oven. Malted rye grain provides a gentle touch to this beautiful root bread. Warm rye bread for 4.90 euros is a gift straight from the heart. Another great edible gift is the sourdough bread from the Way Bakery. If you really feel like it, you can also stay for a glass of wine on the terrace or head to the Karhupuisto “Bear Park” next to Way’s canopy kiosk.

Give the gift of a healthy back
Who among us did not spend too much time in the same position during the corona crisis? Few people who work remotely from home have an ergonomic workstation, which can be felt in the back and neck. Orthopedic osteopathy specialises in soft tissue treatment and gentle manipulation that helps your sore body to recover and liberate your body movements. This can reduce the pain in acute situations, but the best results are obtained with preventive treatments. The Pasila Osteopathy Centre (Pasilan osteopatiakeskus) offers such a treatment for 60 euros, or 40 euros for a treatment by a student specialising in orthopedics. They too are healthcare professionals, physiotherapists and trained masseurs. A gift card would make a loved one who has to work from home very happy!
