Talosaari recreational area

Talosaari (Husö) is a typical south coast area with a 19th century manor in the middle now functioning as a horse riding stable. The highest point is Kasaberget (52 m above sea level). Talosaari is important for natural conservation and includes four protected areas and ten protected sites.

Malminkartanonhuippu

Malminkartanonhuippu is the highest point in Helsinki with its 91 metres above sea level. It is an artificial hill that has "grown" throughout the years as the area was beeing used as a municipal landfill site in 1976-96. Now the hill is a popular recreational- and exercise area, partly because of its stairs with 426 steps!

Kuusijärvi

Kuusijärvi is a popular all-season outdoor recreational center. In summertime a large sandy beach and in wintertime a beautiful cross-country skiing landscape with an invigorating ice swimming possibility are the foundations for Kuusijärvi's popularity. Kuusijärvi offers the only traditional smoke saunas in Helsinki Metropolitan area open to public on regular basis.

Restaurant Cafe Kuusijärvi is open throughout the year and serves lunch on weekdays and soup lunch on weekends.

Vanhankaupunginlahti bay area

Vanhankaupunginlahti bay area is a unique nature-, culture- and recreational area close to Helsinki city centre. The bay area reeds are, also internationally, significant bird nesting and watching areas. Several endangered eg. bird-, insect-, bat- and polypore species live in the surrounding nature and especially the surrounding woods. There are bird watching towers and shelters in the area for nature enthusiasts. The wide trail network consists of eg. hiking trails, duck boards and cycling paths. A part of the trails are accessible with wheelchairs and such.

Lammassaari

Lammassaari is a recreational island close to Vanhankaupunginkoski rapids near Arabianranta, next to Kuusiluoto. Accessible duckboards (a path made of wooden planks) begin from Pornaistenniemi. Together with the nature trail Lap of Nature, the duckboards form an accessible recreational path of approx. 3,5km.

Lammassaari is part of the Viikki-Vanhankaupunginlahti nature reserve. All visitors should respect the peace of nature both inside the nature protection area as well as in the surrounding green areas. Lammassaari is a perfect place for nature hikes and bird watching while there are thousands of migrating birds in the area every spring and autumn.

Please notice that there are private cottages in the area and walking in the area should be on marked paths only.

Though the name Lammassaari, meaning "sheep island" in Finnish, sheep can't be found here but on the nearby Kuusiluoto island instead (in summertime).

Karjakaivo putdoor recreation area

Karjakaivo outdoor recreation area is located in Espoo 30 km from Helsinki, between Bodominjärvi and Pitkäjärvi in Nuuksio, on the north side of Nuuksiontie road.

It is a peaceful outing area with its steep cliffs, erratic boulders, mires and wetlands. In addition to the steep cliffs there is also plenty of easily accessible terrain. From the adjacent Solvalla sports academy you can access short round tours.

Uutela Nature Trail

Uutela is the largest and most naturally diversified recreational area in East Helsinki. It includes rugged glaciated rock formations, coastal scenes bordered by flood meadows and alder trees, forest and marshland, old summer houses, and the historically important features and grazing lands of Skata Farm. The nature trail at Uutela consists of two walking tours of differing length forming a figure 8 pattern. There are two cooking shelters and a toilet for visitors to use.
