Vuotalo

Vuotalo provides a wide range of cultural events, changing exhibitions in the gallery, and art education activities intended for children, young people, day care centres and schools.

The programme features films, matinees and a variety of concerts for both children and adults.

In the building also Vuosaari library and Pokkari café.

Old Church

In the heart of Helsinki, in the old Kamppi cemetery, also called Vanha kirkkopuisto (Old Church Park) stands the Old Church, completed in 1826. The Old Church was designed by the creator of the Empire era centre of Helsinki, Carl Ludvig Engel. The church is decorated with simple pillars in the Doric style, gables and a delicate bell tower. The movables of the Ulrika Eleonora church, which was demolished to make room to the Cathedral, were moved to the wooden church, which was meant to be temporary. Only the pulpit still exists.

Today the church is a popular church for weddings. A short organ recital is given on each Tuesday (at noon).

Helsinki Cathedral

The Cathedral, by Carl Ludvig Engel, rising on the northern side of the Senate Square is the stage of national and academic festive services and one of the most popular tourist sights. The church is part of Helsinki's Empire era centre and a landmark for those arriving by sea. It has become the symbol of the whole of Helsinki. Earlier called St. Nicholas Church and Great Cathedral, the current main church of the Helsinki Diocese was completed in 1852. Sculptures of the twelve apostles guard the city from the roof of the church.

Tavastia-klubi

Tavastia is one of Europe's oldest still active rock clubs. The club, built in 1970, features live concerts with international artists as well as top Finnish artists. Every Saturday, after the gigs, the DJs play indie/pop/rock music from the best classics to the latest hits.

The restaurant Ilves offers lunch on weekdays and snacks till the wee hours of the night.

Finnish National Opera and Ballet

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is the only professional opera company in Finland. It traces its history back to 1911 and the Ballet was founded in 1922.

There are generally four new opera productions and three new ballet productions staged each year. Added to these are revivals of old productions. The Finnish National Opera and Ballet performs both established classics and contemporary opera and dance works, especially new Finnish works.

Following international practice, operas are generally performed in their original languages. There is a surtitling screen above the proscenium arch, usually with the text in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Stoa

Stoa is a lively and varied culture centre in East Helsinki situated by the metro station in Itäkeskus, next door to the Itis Shopping Centre. The high quality events at Stoa attract visitors of all ages. Stoa's programme includes Finnish and international contemporary dance and circus, theatre, music, children's performances and exhibitions. Stoa's auditorium is one of the best venues for contemporary dance in Helsinki. in the building also Itäkeskus library and Café Stoa.

Uniarts Helsinki's Sibelius Academy

Uniarts Helsinki's Sibelius Academy is one of the largest music academies in Europe. Art and artistic work are at the core of education at the Sibelius Academy.

Art at the Sibelius Academy is versatile and surprising. The activities are showcased in over 600 annual concerts that are open to the public. Most of the concerts are staged at the Helsinki Music Centre.

Semifinal

Opened in 1993, Semifinal is a stepping stone for new talent. This is the place to see for the first time some of the promising artists who will later let it rip upstairs at the full Tavastia club.

Savoy Theatre

Savoy Theatre is located in the heart of Helsinki, next to the Esplanadi park. International and Finnish stars, dance, music and theatre. Savoy Theatre is particularly known as a leading concert venue for world music.
