Fleminginkatu highlights the rustic appeal of Kallio

Starting from the corner of Kallio Library, Fleminginkatu runs through the middle of the Kallio neighbourhood, which is known as a residential area for artists and students. Kallio is actually the most densely populated urban area in Finland, and its city blocks offer a huge variety of cafés, restaurants, local bars and street-front businesses. Kallio is genuine, honest and down to earth.

Shopping opportunities along Fleminginkatu

Kallio is a hub for second hand shopping. Hoochie Mama Jane sells vintage and second-hand shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories. The sympathetic Small Plant Boutique (Pieni Kasvikauppa) delights with lovingly grown flowers and greenery. Himo sells individual floral dresses, including plus sizes in its Pioni+ collection. HEL GOOD SUPPLY sells accessories by Finnish artists and brands. Tapettitalo has a huge selection of Finnish design wallpapers that are perfect for decorating and even stage designs. 

Nanna Susi is a successful Finnish artist, whose works can be admired from the studio window at Fleminginkatu 6 or at the displays during the exhibitions.

Mekkomania stock tons of vintage fashion pieces from the beginning of the last century up to the 80s, with an emphasis on 60s and 70s fashion. Gem Vintage sells high quality second hand street fashion in the adjoining space.

Fargo is a vintage interior design company that mainly sells furniture and small items from the 50s and 60s. Next door is the Antikvariaatti Aavetaajuus, which sells sci-fi, fantasy, horror and a lot more vintage literature. Harjun kukka is one of Helsinki's most wonderful flower shops, where you can find both fresh and dried flower bouquets as well as unique flower wreaths. Astiaparatiisi and Paroni Antiikki combined their businesses and offer a wide range of used glassware, porcelain and jewellery, as well as antique furniture.

Beer, wine and delicacies

There are several cozy cafés around Karhupuisto, a special mention goes to the Way Kiosk in the park (open during the summer season). Flät 14 and Bear Park Cafe are open all year round and both have a cozy terrace. Gateau sells tasty sandwiches, sweet pastries and specialty coffees.

Sivukirjasto is a cosy pub that serves over a hundred different beers. Way is a new bakery and wine bar on Agricolankatu. Gastro Cafe Kallio is a restaurant-kitchen-micro bakery that serves great food and coffees. Skiffer Kallio is a rustic and modern restaurant with a stone hearth oven that serves special pizzas.The vegetable-focused breakfast and dining venue Green Hippo and the cozy block restaurant Bar 10 are the newest entrants at Fleminginkatu street. Wino is a trendy wine bar and restaurant that specialises in organic and natural wines. Hey Poke is a charming Hawaiian restaurant that specialises in its namesake Poke which is a classic Hawaiian dish made from raw fish and various mix-ins such as avocado, kale, and macadamia nuts. Cella is a cosy socialising restaurant that has served Finnish cuisine since 1969. Döner Harju is a small but popular kebab restaurant that serves also vegetarian kebabs.

Fafa’s pita breads and salads are full with fresh vegetables, herbs, sauces and selected quality fillings. NamNam is a tiny Vietnamese restaurant that serves simple but delicious dishes. On the Rocks is a popular bar and bistro on the corner of Flemar and Porvoonkatu.

Located on the corner of Flemar and Aleksis Kivi streets, S-market Vallila offers an excellent wide selection of food, drinks and groceries, serving as a perfect stopover to pick up food on the way home or when heading out for a picnic in the park. With a wide selection ranging from fresh sushi, bakery products, hot dishes and specialty beers.
