Helsinki has been one of the biggest surprises for us this year. We didn’t know much about the city beforehand and our visit was the perfect way to get to know Helsinki and its life. What really helped us experience the best of it was the one-week-long stay. During this stay we could really feel the regular daily routine of a Helsinki resident: having breakfast at home, eating local products, walking and taking public transportation. The whole apartment was designed by the most well-known Finnish designers such as Marimekko and Artek. Helsinki is definitely a destination to experience and feels like home from the very first moment. People are very friendly, speak English perfectly and are very proud of their beautiful city which absolutely makes your stay even more enjoyable.

Here follows a short summary of those posts with 5 tips out of their recommendations in Helsinki:

1) Find the perfect corner at Senate Square where you can enjoy the best views over the Helsinki Cathedral.

2) Have a walk around the harbor areas and feel the essence of the city by the sea. Have a sunset drink in one of the bars at Kanavaranta, e.g. Holiday!

3) Don’t miss the breakfast at Ekberg cafe & bakery before starting your day!

4) Feel the multicultural spirit in Helsinki by visiting Uspenski Cathedral.

5) Explore all the staircases; Helsinki has many beautiful staircases, don’t miss the ones at the Natural History Museum, Ateneum and Helsinki University Library!

Our stay was memorable because of the great spring weather but however we enjoyed using the coziest woolen socks we got in our welcome kit. Helsinki is full of great local restaurants that involve all of your senses. They combine traditional and modern aesthetics as well as the local and international ingredients. Many restaurants provide a daily menu what is very convenient for tourists as you can experience the best of local Finnish cuisine in one meal which is by the way delicious. Helsinki is rich of tourist attractions and sights and the best thing about them is that they are not crowded throughout the day. That gives you the possibility to enjoy every single sight in a calm and peaceful way.
