Hanko is a beautiful spa town that was founded in 1874 and is known for its sandy beaches and sunny weather. The charming atmosphere of the historic spa town, the excellent range of restaurants and the presence of the sea all around have earned Hanko the reputation of being the Finnish Riviera. The harbour at the southernmost tip of Finland is very popular among sailors and holidaymakers, who can enjoy a wide range of events almost every day. It’s easy to spend a day in Hanko just walking around the harbour, among the boutiques, through the parks and along the shoreline. From Hanko you can also access the unique nature of the outer archipelago.

  • Bengtskär is the tallest lighthouse in the Nordic region. You can explore the island and the lighthouse with a one-day cruise.
  • Spa Park features beautiful old wooden villas that represent decorative wooden architecture. Some of the buildings still serve as guest houses and restaurants.
  • Hanko’s water tower stands 65 metres above sea level. Ride the lift to the top and enjoy the fantastic view in all directions over the cape of Hanko and the Baltic Sea. 
Raised on a rocky plateau behind three large trees, is a large, traditional wooden villa, an example of one of the many beautiful villas of Hanko.

How to get there

You can get to Hanko by train in two hours with a change in Karjaa. Buses to Hanko depart from Kamppi and take around 2.5 hours. By car you can get there in around 1.5 hours.
