The Sustainable Meeting Guidelines are designed to help you set clear objectives for your event right from the outset. Our aims with the Sustainable Meeting Guidelines are to reduce the negative environmental impacts of events, whilst also seeking to increase the positive social effects events can have on local communities.
We want to encourage you to consider things such as:
- Including sustainability at the core of your requirements when choosing your suppliers, venue, content and speakers
- How your decisions can serve your business strategy in more sustainable ways
- How you can inspire others through your actions, fully utilising your participants as ambassadors for your event
- Creating meaningful stories
- In what ways you can communicate your event’s sustainability achievements to all your stakeholders
We will have to do things differently through our everyday choices, in our lives and how we conduct business. Integrating sustainability is a fantastic opportunity to do the right thing but most of all to be innovative and creative. Together we will create the new normal.
Here’s a quick guide to some of the sustainability criteria to include when planning an event:
- Material use
- Water and energy consumption
- Air pollution
- Waste management
- Good governance by following international standards
- Diversity and inclusion, anti-harassment policies, etc.
- Participating in the local community you operate in
- Education and raising awareness (via communication, collaboration, content proposed at the event)
