Graffiti and skateboarding
A graffiti wall and skatepark can be found in Suvilahti, close to the city centre near the Kalasatama metro station. Everyone is free to paint on the graffiti wall, or you can simply admire the art and watch others create their masterpieces. Just around the corner at the Suvilahti DIY Skatepark, you can try out your skateboarding skills and check out the other skateboarders! The skatepark is open to everyone!

Hang out at Teurastamo
It’s easy to spend a laid-back summer’s day at the Culinary and Urban Culture Centre Teurastamo, where you will find hammocks, sunchairs, picnic tables, and a public grilling area. Try the delicious ice cream made on the spot at Jädelino or any of the other culinary treats on offer. Teurastamo is indeed the perfect urban picnic spot!

Bryga rooftop terrace at the REDI shopping centre
The Bryga rooftop terrace at the REDI shopping centre has a unique playground and climbing area that you won’t find anywhere elsewhere in Helsinki. At the same time you can enjoy the scenery, marvel at the changing landscape and the new Kalasatama district, and relax on a sunchair. The playground is suitable for kids big and small, and even school-age kids will enjoy the climbing area. You can access the rooftop terrace using the lokki “seagull” elevators or from the outside via the ramps from the highway.

Climb to dizzying heights
For real excitement, head for one of the two Korkee Adventure Park locations in Helsinki, where you can spend a fun day out with family and friends. There are a variety of obstacle tracks to choose from in the forests, providing just the right challenge for beginners and more experienced climbers. At Mustikkamaa, small kids can navigate their way through a special obstacle course together with their parents, while at Paloheinä there is an adventure forest for them to try!

Secret island
Situated just off the southern tip of Lauttasaari, Sisä-Hattu is a secret island that you can reach on foot – even without getting your feet wet – from the mainland during low tide. On the island you can find rock drawings, watch the giant cruise ships sailing past, or just listen to the waves lapping against the rocks. Sisä-Hattu offers a different kind of island adventure and the chance to see the city from a new perspective. Good footwear is recommended, as the rocks leading to the island can be sharp in places.

Harbour views in Vuosaari
There are several places in the Vuosaari district where kids can marvel at the huge harbour cranes, watch the cargo ships and count the containers. On top of the 12-metre-high noise barrier at Vuosaari Harbour you will find the Horisontti observation deck, where you can watch all the activities in the busy harbour. You can also see the lines of containers from Uutela on the southern edge of the harbour and from the breakwater at the nearby guest harbour. Alternatively, you can climb to the top of the Vuosaari hill next to the harbour and see amazing views over the harbour and all the way to the city. The former landfill is also worth visiting just for its nature!

History of trams
The Tram Museum in Töölö is an excellent place for tramspotting, as it presents the old trams and related memorabilia. The museum is open daily from 11am to 5pm, and admission is free of charge. On weekends in summer months you can even take a ride around the city centre on a vintage tram dating back to the early 1900s. You can jump aboard from a stop next to the Market Square.

Adventure to the top of the Kruunuvuori hill
The abandoned villas, mystical pond and amazing granite rocks at the Kruunuvuori hill are perfect for a summer adventure. Kruunuvuori makes for an exciting visit with bigger kids. All that remains of the villas are abandoned ruins, but you can still sense the ghostly atmosphere. You will also find two old oil containers that are still standing. A new residential area is being built at Kruunuvuorenranta, bringing massive machinery and new life to this part of town.
